Sandro Bucher takes over the presidency of the Freethinkers Winterthur
The Winterthur section of the Swiss Freethinkers' Association elected journalist Sandro Bucher as its new president on Friday.
The 27-year-old Sandro Bucher succeeds Marc Wäckerlin, the previous president of the Winterthur section. Bucher was previously a member of the board. In addition to his new role as Section President, he is also active in the editorial committee of the Swiss Freethinkers' Association and as an author for the association's magazine frei denken.
"The many fake news and half-truths surrounding the current pandemic underline once again the importance of an enlightened, science-oriented society, for which we Freethinkers stand," says Bucher. "I am therefore very pleased to make a contribution to this together with the freethinkers in Winterthur. In addition, we are the voice of non-denominational people, and as such, an important counterpart in the Evangelical stronghold of Winterthur".
Bucher holds a degree in journalism and organisational communication from the ZHAW and works as digital media manager for a Swiss online knowledge magazine in Winterthur. Due to his commitment in the humanistic and atheistic field, he was invited by Pope Francis to the preparatory week of the Youth Synod in March 2018 to represent atheists worldwide in the Vatican.
Wäckerlin also resigns as a member of the board. In the future he wants to concentrate more on his profession and politics, especially on building up his own company.
