The Humanist Press Service hpd.de illuminates events and current affairs from a humanist perspective. It reaches around 10,000 visitors daily. The hpd sees itself as a platform for the broad spectrum of secular endeavours and wants to give a voice to non-denominational actors. The main themes are humanism, secularism and atheism as well as criticism of religion and the church, but also education and ethics as well as human rights and civil courage. Questions about science and philosophy are just as much a part of the programme as debates on data protection or euthanasia.

The hpd was created on the initiative of the Giordano Bruno Foundation and the Humanist Association of Germany and went online in 2006. The portal reports primarily on German-speaking countries, but also regularly addresses secular topics from the rest of the world.

Unanimous accession

At their meeting of delegates on 6 September 2020, the Swiss Freethinkers unanimously agreed to join. This will enable us to increase our capacity for reporting from Switzerland - on issues that affect the core concerns of our organisation. The president of hpd, Dr. Rainer Rosenzweig, is also looking forward to the cooperation. "In this way, the hpd has a broad base throughout the entire German-speaking area, from which the broadly interested readers can only benefit," he says. The Humanist Association Austria (HVÖ) had joined the association last year.

Cooperation also possible in other language regions

Joining the support association of Humanistischer Pressedienst e.V. primarily benefits public relations work in German. The Swiss Freethinkers are, however, open to similar cooperation in French- and Italian-speaking countries.
